Hello, my name is Nathaniel Sperling and I am running for Gainesville City Commission (District 4).

I have lived in Gainesville virtually my whole life and recently graduated from the University of Florida. Currently, outside of my campaigning, I am discerning a vocation to the Catholic Priesthood. I am running for office because I feel the City Commission needs new blood, someone who can go into any situation willing to listen to the people and always open to new ideas and viewpoints; in other words, a candidate who is not locked into one political ideology or another. I am committed to promoting fairness and equal opportunities for all who call Gainesville home.

Recognizing the great diversity of the city--students, retirees, families, professionals, environmentalists, professors, liberals, conservatives and much more--I will approach any issue with a willingness to listen to all sides to seek solutions that are fair to all. In these trying economic times, I am willing to work with the business community to promote job growth and a greater prosperity for all citizens, but also with social advocacy groups to ensure that all residents are treated fairly and justly, especially those hardest hit by the economic downturn.

I look forward to getting to know the people of Gainesville better and listening to their concerns, ideas and goals for this city. I firmly believe that, even though various interests may have a different vision for Gainesville’s future, most of us truly desire what is best for the city that we live, work and play in.
